The statement made by Ilhan Omar, a Somali-American congresswoman, marks another blow to Ethiopia’s distorted ambitions, where the government in Addis Ababa is coveting Somalia’s sea.
Senator Ilhan Omar emphasized that as long as she is in the U.S. Congress, it will never happen that Somalia’s seas and waters will be taken by another entity. She dismissed the hopes and dreams depicted by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government as baseless, affirming that the U.S. is prepared to endorse and accept any legitimate proposals we make.
Speaking at an event in Minnesota supporting the newly elected leaders of the Puntland regional state, Ilhan Omar said, “The U.S. government will never mistakenly support other countries in plundering us. So, people of Minnesota, rest assured, I am here for you. As the congresswoman you sent yesterday, I am fully aware of this matter, just as you feel it.”
Continuing her speech, Ilhan Omar praised the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, expressing her great satisfaction with the strong work and resilience shown by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and how well he has made the Somali people feel the protection and unity of Somalia.
