A summit mediated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan between the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed concluded in Ankara.
The meeting, which lasted several hours, resulted in a mutual agreement based on a Joint Communiqué issued at the conclusion of the summit. This agreement resolved all previous disputes, including contentious agreements that had caused disagreements, and labeled them as matters of the past. Both nations have pledged to turn a new page founded on mutual respect, sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.
The Joint Communiqué also emphasized that any agreements between the two parties must go through the Federal Government of Somalia.
Regarding maritime usage, which will be limited to trade purposes, both nations agreed to follow a legal framework that benefits both sides and contributes to economic development. This framework will strictly adhere to international law while upholding Somalia’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.
The Federal Government of Somalia extended profound gratitude to President Erdogan, the people, and the government of Turkey for hosting this summit and for their eight months of dedicated efforts to resolve the crisis in the Horn of Africa.
