The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh, held a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart.

A joint press conference was held by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The conference, held in Cairo on January 21, 2024, focused on crucial issues including the security of the Red Sea, the regional situation, the fight against terrorism, and strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud emphasized the need to counter challenges against the sovereignty and unity of Somalia. He also highlighted the long-standing brotherly relationship between Somalia and Egypt, expressing his commitment to strengthening diplomatic, security, and political ties.

On his part, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi demonstrated Egypt’s support for preserving the unity and security of Somalia, stressing Egypt’s stance that violations against Somalia are unacceptable. He mentioned Egypt’s readiness to defend the sovereignty of Arab countries when necessary.

Both presidents also discussed Somalia’s progress in areas such as security, combating terrorism, and historic achievements like the lifting of the arms embargo, debt relief, and joining the East African economic market.

This conference illustrates the commitment of both countries to further strengthen their cooperation and to collaboratively work on regional and global interests.
