President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, during his visit to the Al-Azhar Al Sharif headquarters in Cairo, met with Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed El-Tayeb, the Imam of Al-Azhar. They discussed the significance of combating the ideology of Al-Shabaab and the situation of the thousands of students studying at Al-Azhar University and its centers.
The President expressed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening the establishment of religious institutions and centers to counter extremist ideology. He invited Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayib to visit Somalia to witness the progress and fruits of the nation’s governance.
On the other hand, Imam Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed El-Tayeb of Al-Azhar Al Sharif thanked the President for his visit and accepted the invitation. He strongly condemned Ethiopia’s interference in the sovereignty and unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, emphasizing the need for a united front against any infringement on the nation’s integrity.
